Messier 101 - the Pinwheel Galaxy. A grand-design spiral galaxy that's estimated to be approximately 21 million light years away and 170,000 light years across, compared to the Milky Way's 250,000 light year diameter, it's estimated to be home to around one trillion stars - more than double the Milky Way. Its asymmetrical shape is due to gravitational forces from surrounding smaller galaxies, one of which is visible in the upper right of the frame, a smaller elliptical galaxy, NGC 5204. This shot is just about ten hours (118 x 300s) of total exposure taken with a ZWO ASI294MC-Pro through an Explore Scientific ED127CF at 952mm focal length.

After 1 hour of hiking, we set up our cameras at 2500m. Although we had expected to see the moon rise right above the mountains, clouds on the horizon delayed when we got our first glimpse of red light. This was my first lunar eclipse photography session and I am afraid I may have been too enthusiastic about the photography. Next time, I’ll focus more on the actual experience. Until then, the result of 90 stacked RAW files taken at around 23h35 CET will have to suffice! Note the faint stars from the original stacked file that show that even at high ISO, modern CMOS sensors have great DR!

Camping with a clear sky in Allegheny National Forest, the milkyway was really obvious as soon we started shooting. Light pollution makes such a difference.

Due to the reduced air traffic at the moment, it is currently much easier to take pictures of the Milky Way without disturbing airplanes. The image was taken at 1:30 am in the north of Munich.

Voilà la version finales de la grande nébuleuse d'Orion avec 2 soirs d'empilement. 500 photos de 30sec au total ont été nécessaires pour arriver à ce résultat. C'est la plus brillante nébuleuse diffuse de l'hémisphère nord, visible à l'œil nu, son diamètre réel fait plus de 4 fois le diamètre de la pleine lune dans le ciel!
