Long View from a Lonely Planet Caption This is an artist's impression of noontime on Sedna, the farthest known planetoid from the Sun. Over 8 billion miles away, the Sun is reduced to a brilliant pinpoint of light that is 100 times brighter than the full Moon. Credits Illustration Credit: NASA, ESA and Adolf Schaller

Out of This Whirl: the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) and Companion Galaxy Caption The graceful, winding arms of the majestic spiral galaxy M51 (NGC 5194) appear like a grand spiral staircase sweeping through space. They are actually long lanes of stars and gas laced with dust. Credits NASA, ESA, S. Beckwith (STScI), and The Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA)

Mobile Quarantine Facility. Summary: This Mobile Quarantine Facility (MQF) was one of four built by NASA for astronauts returning from the Moon. Its purpose was to prevent the unlikely spread of lunar pathogens by isolating the astronauts from contact with other people. A converted Airstream trailer, the MQF contained living and sleeping quarters, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Quarantine was assured by keeping the air pressure inside lower than the pressure outside and by filtering the air vented from the facility. Record ID nasm_A19740677000
